After living in Australia for about 6 months and many unsuccessful hours in the water at attempting to surf, I decided it was more than time to finally improve my skills on the board by attending one of Surf & Sun’s surfing lessons in Middleton.
Middleton beach is the perfect location for beginner surfers, because of the gentle and continuous waves all year around. They are easy to catch and if you miss one, you don’t have to wait too long for the next one to come. It is about an hour's drive from Adelaide and there is a bus service which departs a few times a day if you don't have a car.
Before we went into the water, our instructor Justin told us some very interesting things about the waves and how to avoid getting into trouble when you are pulled back into the ocean. After that we learnt how to paddle, position yourself on the board and then get up to catch the waves.
Now we were all set to go into the water! It was so much fun and after a few tries I managed to stand up for exactly 1 second (bravo for me!). Too bad it was a very cold and cloudy day, which made me turn into a (blue) smurf very quickly.
Thanks again to Surf & Sun for a really great day and awesome experience. Keep up the good work Justin!
