Spectacular walks and unforgettable sights. Star gazing and life underground at Coober Pedy. A great BIG adventure, arrive in Adelaide with great memories and new friends.
Day 1
No need to rush! We leave at midday so you've got all morning to get organised. Today we head to Kings Creek Station where at the end of the day after a hearty dinner we settle into our swags around the campfire.
Day 2
After breakfast we walk Watarrka (Kings Canyon) to experience the fantastic views of the Gorge, huge sandstone walls and an immense canyon floor. The Garden of Eden is a real highlight. We then head towards Uluru in good shape to set up camp and go out for our first Uluru sunset. Nothing really prepares you for The Rock - it's awesome. After a hearty dinner we hit the swags for an early start next day.
Day 3
Up with the birds for breakfast, today its at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). We hike the majestic Valley of the Winds with its incredibly ancient rock formations before returning to camp to spend the rest of the day soaking up the magic of Uluru. There is enough time to do everything including climbing Uluru, however the Aboriginal owners would prefer it if you didn't. It's your choice!
Day 4
After another fantastic breakfast we enjoy a walk around the base of Uluru and spend time learning about the Aboriginal people at the Cultural Centre. Then it’s down the highway to Coober Pedy. Dinner, lots of stories and an overnight stay at the roadhouse.
Day 5
Coober Pedy by lunchtime. Opal capital of the world and a landscape a lot like Mars. The locals live underground and so will you. After a tour of the town enjoy a beer in the pub, go 'noodling' for opals or visit an opal shop. There's a special star-gazing tour tonight, one of the real highlights of the trip.
Day 6
Last day. Incredible changing landscape, kangaroos, emus, eagles, road trains, genuine bush characters and enough stops to keep you happy along the way. Relax in air-conditioned comfort and settle into our deep reclining seats as we cruise to Adelaide, arriving around 6 PM.
What to bring
Hat, sunscreen, walking shoes, insect
repellent, water bottle, bathers (swimming gear), and a sleeping bag (or hire one from us for $15). Otherwise all the usual stuff, and most important a sense of adventure!
